The telephone station directory of the Reichsbahndirektion Berlin (railway head office Berlin) dated January 10, 1945 gives an idea of the destruction of the telephone network in WW2. Fernsprechhauptverbindungen (main connections between head offices) do not exist, the list of long-distance telephone connections is very fragmentary. The basa satelite exchange Westen is a manual exchange. Some basa of the directorate network are only reachable through manual exchanges.
Structure of the Direktionsnetz
The figure shows the probable structure of the Direktionsnetz (regional telephone network), as far as it can be recognized from the information in the telephone station directory.
Main telephone connections (Hauptverbindungen)
The telephone station directory of the Reichsbahndirektion Berlin does not list any main telephone connections between other head offices and Berlin (Basa-Großnetz). The facilities of the Basa-Großnetz node in Berlin and the transfer facilities may have been located in the Basa bunker on Hallesches Ufer, which was flooded when the north-south tunnel was blown up.
